Chronicles of KAWASAKI- Free the Beast Event

April 29-30

Talk about testosterone overload.  This was indeed a fast and sexy weekend...

This year’s National Federation of Motorcycles Club Annual Convention was hosted by Davao’s very own On Any Sunday Riders (OASR) Club.  Matina Town Square’s “almost always” deserted parking area was transformed into a colourful and eventful space for 2 days.  We’ve seen MTS during its heydays and when it’s the venue of concerts and shows, but we’ve never seen it as it was during the convention.

The Kawasaki Motors Philippines wanted to showcase their commuter and leisure bikes the best way they could – by giving the people a show they wouldn't forget.  We built a 216 sq. meter tent, which, by the way, was the best looking tent amongst the bunch *IMO. love your own*, complete with fiberglass standees and tables.  If not for the threat of heavy rain, we would have covered the whole tent area with carpet to make it more posh.  We had a lounge area for the guest, free tattoo for whoever’s interested and gift packs distributed by hot models.

The show started with a dance number from the Asian Barbies -- who, by the way, made the atmosphere hotter than ever.  Next up the Rouser Rockstar Tattoo contest, where local tattoo artists show off their talents by drawing their designs on the spot.  Followed by the Vulcan Singing Idol that featured the voices of our much beloved biker enthusiasts.  The next one may be the most favoured by the gents, the Ms. Fury Contest where five pre-selected contestants vie for the much coveted title. Temperature rising much?

And who better to end the show and award our winners than Ms. Fury herself, Ms. Katrina Halili.  She graced us with two songs and did the honor of revealing Kawasaki’s pride, the Vulcan ZX10R, which is a personal favorite of Kawasaki Philippines' President, Mr. Jin Inoue.

The Ninja ZX-10R, which by Kawasaki’s definition grants the innermost desires of a true Kawasaki biker – that of breaking free and giving in to their wildest animal instincts! Curious?  Watch this…

After the program, guests were allowed to wander around the tent and check out the bike displays.

Aside from the much awaited ZX-10R, Kawasaki also displayed six of their most popular bikes. First, we have the Fury 125, one of Kawasaki’s solo ride motorbikes.  It’s the first underbone with standard big bike styling – meaning it is designed with the full attitude and feel of a big bike! 125cc engine, 4-stroke Euro II compliant. It has a stylish yet sporty look with its mono-shock. It practically has no need for modifications. Surely the Fury 125 will feed our biker’s passion for road domination!

We also have the Rouser 220. Now, this is the bike that’s built for the bolder man! The Rouser 220 has state of the art features – 220 cc engine displacement, CV Carburetor, digital twin spark ignition, and an oil-cooled engine. It also has lighted handlebar switch, self-cancelling turn signal lamp, side-stand indicator lamp, LCD speedometer, cast wheels, and sports styling muffler. This is truly a machine for rock star bikers who makes their own rules!

On the Leisure Bikes category, we have the Kawasaki Ninja sportbike series. One of two on display is the Ninja 250. Lightweight and agile, the Ninja 250 boasts low ownership costs and is a dominating force in the entry-level sportbike category. Equipped with 250cc engine displacement, with a lightweight twin cylinder engine – which may be small, light, and compact, but its’ 4-valvel head packs maximum power into every rpm. It has 17-inch wheels with UNI-TRAK rear suspension and triple-petal disc brakes.

Then, of course, we also have the Ninja 650. A 650 cc engine displacement, fuel injected twin cylinder performance and a beautiful euro-inspired chassis best describe this monster machine. All these features permit the use of a narrow, lightweight frame that appeal to both beginners and advanced riders.

We also have the KLX-150 – Kawasaki’s bet for owing power, versatility and comfort for off-road biking. It has a 150cc engine displacement, a compact and slim single cylinder engine, and a lightweight perimeter frame with mono-shock.  This bike is very easy to manage for beginners, yet also appeals very well to our adventurous off-road experienced bikers.

Last but not least, we have the Vulcan 900, currently the biggest of the bunch.  The Vulcan 900 can turn heads with its fusion of classic good looks and unbeatable power. This monster machine is powered with a fuel-injected 903cc V-Twin engine displacement.   A massive rear tire, light looking front end accentuated by a thin 21-inch cast wheel and a sculpted body top the Vulcan 900’s standout features. You can ride with cool confidence and comfort atop its low-gunfighter style seat and forward mounted footpegs.

It was indeed an “overbiked” weekend for the riders! The love for riding brought over 2000 bikers in one venue – truly a passion only a dedicated rider can understand.  Hopefully, next year’s National Convention will bring in more numbers and participants.  Congratulations to Davao’s Sunday Riders for a job well done!

Thank you to those who visited our tent.  To Kawasaki Philippines, EMCOR and Well Ads Agency team… kudos to all of you and know that the fishes has so much fun working with you guys! Cheers!
