DJ Surf in the House: Kadayawan Kick-off Party

Why throw a party when:
1.    It’s been raining like crazy for the past few weeks… the weather here’s like Michael Jackson’s gender – it’s unpredictable.
2.    Davao Party Scene is officially in the history books as the loser-city-with-2-am-curfew.  We.Just.Don’t.Get.The.Point.
3.    A bomb exploded in one of the malls here and an IED (what’s this?) was found planted at the airport -- JUST A DRILL, thank you party god.

Any sensible event organizer would think twice before throwing a party.  Well, Fishtank Productions never claimed sanity; we might be sober at times but we are never sane.  Aaaand… we want to bring back DJ Surf of Hey Jude Boracay!

Thanks to Chevrolet for making this event possible.  * Also, big thanks to I Love Salon, Ranch & Reef, M Magazine and MixFM for the support.  Cheers!

As always, DJ Torch was impeccable.  He’s definitely the best deejay in Davao!
DJ Surf got a rockstar welcome – a bunch of girls screaming and some chanting, “Take it off!” for his set at Metro Lounge.  He’s far from the conventional deejay just toiling unnoticed in a booth – Surf moves with his music and parties with the crowd.  This is his 3rd time here so he knows dabawenyos well… he knew to inject in just enough mainstream to make even the most dance-impaired clubgoer move to his beats *coughbiebercough*.  Davao loves you Surf!

There were a lot of new faces – mostly of young girls.  Hmmm, we wonder if the hawtness that is DJ Surf is responsible.

Hahaha!  Who are we kidding?!  Of course he is!

Nosebleed!  United Colors of Benetton!  We have friends who went home for the kadayawan!  This event should have been aptly titled THE REUNION… hallmark moments with longtime friends… friendship + alcohol = emo.  Special shout out to FG Wong, who took the bus from CDO and back just to party with us, and to the DOG SQUAD, who were right on time!

More pictures by How-How Howie Wacky Masbad :-)  Thanks to Mr. Ian Garcia and Ms. Bunny Sy for the fab photos...

To all the thirsty fishes who came, who were seen and who conquered the party scene… kudos to all of you!  To the party casualties *you know who you are*… just keep on partying!  We promise you, THEIR TIME WILL COME… hahaha!  *fingers crossed*

Party on Davao and let’s get tanked!

*special thanks to the Mindanao times- Sept.1,2010

PLEASE DONT STOP THE MUSIC!
THE CITY was one big party address during the recent Kadayawan weekend. Davao’s entertainment enclaves were packed with party people from all over the archipelago.  Whether they were watching the shows of the country’s top bands at Damosa Gateway, Rizal Promenade, Rizal Park, or Matina Town Square, or flaunting their terpsichorean prowess on the dance floors of Club 183, Metro Lounge, Zigudu, Guru or Hybrid, they all have one thing in mind:  to have an unforgettable Kadayawan party.
Thankfully, this year’s Kadayawan gave us the kind of party we all wanted and expected  wholesome, relentless fun, and the revelry was even extended to a few hours before sunup (yes!).
One crowd-puller that got the festival parties started was the Kadayawan Kick-Off Party at Metro Lounge featuring DJ Surf of Hey Jude Bar, Bora (perennially shirtless, by choice and by demand).  This is DJ Surf’s nth comeback to the city where he is well-loved by the party pips (all of his previous parties were certified SRO).
Presented by FishTank Productions in partnership with Chevrolet Cruze, Ranch & Reef, I love Salon, Mix FM and M (Life & Living in Mindanao) Magazine, the event treated guests with buy1, take-1 promo on all beers, which gave more booze, er, boost to the energy of the party.  Besides DJ Surfs repertoire, the event also showcased the addictive house music of our very own DJ Torch that got everybody on their feet all night long.
Capping the party-ful Kadayawan celebration was the Marlboro/Philip Morris Party also at the Metro Lounge where the city’s select party set let their hair hang down in the festivals THE party of the weekend.  With out-of-town/country based Dabawenyos - and their guests -  back in Davao for the annual fiesta, the party became a homecoming of sorts, which made the night even more fun and memorable.
Speaking of memorable, DJ Torch also celebrated his birthday that night. Together with good friend DJ Gary, they spun the best house music of this era (or was I only one reminiscing the music of Liquid that night?).  Our pal Mikey Aportadera joined the deejays on the deck as he hosted the by-invitation-only event (hugs and kisses to Patricia Joven for the invite).
Changing gears, there’s a tittle-tattle that one of our favorite dance clubs has already retired from the metros party scene. It is said to be reinventing itself into a more quiet F&B outlet. We will surely miss that one. The good news, however, is that a new posh dance club is set to open very soon. Just stare at the night sky night and you will know what I’m talking about (*wink!*) .  Indeed, when God closes a lounge, he opens a bigger dance floor. We haven’t got tired of dancing yet.
